It is with gladness and sadness that we announce the appointment of Dr. Gerson Santos to the General Conference as Director of Urban Ministry. In his new appointment, Dr. Santos will be directly involved in the "missions to the cities" project of the world church. "This is a great loss to our conference," said President, Dr. G. Earl Knight. "Elder Santos has been a key person in the administration of the Conference ever since we started two years ago. With his help, we have made great strides and enjoyed a united front as we dealt with the grave issues."
"Leila and I feel very humbled as we received the call to promote Urban Ministry for the worldwide church", said Dr. Gerson Santos. "God loves the cities because there are billions of people living in urban areas around the world. The task is huge and the opportunity is unfathomable. Our priority is to continue ministry in New York, we will continue to work here," said Dr. Santos. "Continue to pray for us and for our brethren to reach the cities of the world with the Three Angels' Message." Dr. Santos will carry a dual capacity for months as he transitions to his new assignment.
" It is our hope," said President Knight, "to have Dr. Santos' service as long as the General Conference will allow us in the Office of Secretariat. Please pray that God will guide us as we seek to accomplish His will."
Dr. Santos has served the Greater New York Conference for a total of nine years, the last two as Executive Secretary.
