“Create an environment where Youth and Young Adults in the Bronx can receive Jesus.” The Bronx Adventist Youth Coordinators and the Pathfinder Coordinators of the Greater New York Conference had the aforementioned goal and objective in mind when we began to prayerfully plan the Bronx Youth and Young Adult Week of Evangelism which would take place during the week of September 26th through October 2nd, 2009 at the Emmanuel Seventh-day Adventist Church located at 3450 Eastchester Road in the Bronx.

We realized the need to embrace the elements of our Conference’s theme: Bridge Building, Loving, Praying, Studying and Witnessing in ways we had not imagined when we first began planning. The cultural and generational divide that so often prevents youth ministries objectives from impacting those who need it most had to be confronted through passionate prayer each night, break out sessions where parents and youth went to separate floors of the  Church and an anointing service where heartfelt and urgent issues were prayed for by Pastor and Elders.

Our speaker for the week, Pastor Melvyn Hayden III of the Community Praise Seventh-day Adventist Church in Baltimore, challenged the youth and young adults to remove all obstacles that prevent them from “Blowing Up” for God and make Christ the most important person in their lives. Throughout the week there was evidence of personal and collective recommitment to Jesus among those in attendance.

Those who attended the nightly meetings sang along with the Praise Team comprised of Youth and Young adults from various churches in the Bronx about the faithfulness of God and were moved us to tears and uninhibited praise. As our meeting closed, Pastor Hayden challenged those in attendance who had not publicly demonstrated their allegiance to God to raise hands if they wanted to be baptized and many hands were raised. At the end of the week’s meeting we experienced  more than just great fellowship among Youth and Young Adults in the Bronx, we saw evidence that when leaders pray for God to do great things on behalf of young people, God breaks down walls.
